For the boys, there'd be no three-setters.
Jack Mills, Nunley, Blake Forester and Beck Holahan won in straights for a 4-0 singles swing, while Mills and Forester only dropped two games in No. 1 doubles and Nunley and Holahan won their No. 2 doubles match 6-1, 6-3.
'The boys have recovered quite well from last year and we had a very good win against Catholic last week,' Poate said. 'We're looking good early.'
At the top spot, this may be Mills' district title to lose. The senior has received college offers but will likely forego that route, instead opting to savor his swan song as he'll likely attend Ole Miss.
'Just recently I kind of decided I didn't want to play college tennis,' Mills said. 'I just wanted to play high school and have fun this year. But I still want to lead my team.
'Obviously we want to win districts. We have to play Chiles and Fort Walton and defend our region, so the goal is to go to state. Individually, I think I can win districts too. Christopher DeCardenas, he's the one I need to take out, but If I can beat him I should be good.'
As for that rivalry with the Vikings?
'Anytime we play those guys it's fun,' Mills said. 'We love it.'
